YOU ARE BRIGHT
A lot of times, I looked around and saw all these influential people that I loved for their creativity and thought to myself: “Damn, why can’t I be that successful in putting my voice out there? My ideas. My passions. What is holding me back from fulfilling this desire to create this aesthetic and project that is burning in me?” Then I realized nothing was stopping me, so I took the very risky leap and started this. The Dopey Sun.
The Dopey Sun is not what I’d call a “fashion” brand, even though a big chunk of it is going to be dedicated to experimental fashion. Mostly, I kind of wanted to cultivate this vision of rebellion and freedom that other people could relate to on a really personal level. Weirdos like myself whose gears are constantly turning and creating new ideas like a genius squirrel on cocaine. I wanted to play around with a niche that I didnt see alot in these startup indie brands and try to make something of myself and my creative direction. And most of all, I wanted to truly feel unburdened by the passing of life, and release the shackles of conformity and overall rule-following from my agenda. I don’t want to chase trends, but hopefully create them and then break them. On my own time.
That leaves this place in between me and the people who find solace in being different. I decided to bridge it with even more randomness. Fragrances that encapsulate movies of feeling and experience, and one-of-one garments and accessories, which (being VERY slow upcycle fashion) only appear once for one person. Really, a showcase of my genius, it will teeter on the edge of functionality and fine art. I dont really believe in fate, but i do believe there is something made for one specific person. And hopefully, the outlandish, niche, insistent garments I craft are made for you. The same goes for the scents that I make, as well as any other content I put out there, including this little blog that will more than likely be way too long each time. In general, I made The Dopey Sun for a very broad but niche category of people. They are as follows: Artists, Skaters, Grunge Kids, Old Money Destroyers, Rebels, Tacky People, Strangers, Losers (self-proclaimed), Geniuses (also self-proclaimed), Creative Visionaries, Those People who Really Love to Thrift but Only go to the Really Expensive Thrift Markets so Really They Love Exotic Vintage, Quiet Kids, Loud Kids, Baddies, People on Any Type of Spectrum, Hopeless Romantics, Chronically Depressed People, Anyone who Once Had an Original Thought, Fashionistas, Seniors, Anyone else I Forgot to Mention, and ESPECIALLY Anyone who was Ever Told No when They had a Dream Dear to Them that They Wanted to Pursue.*

I just want to become freer and more positive, and I hope to invite others to enjoy that same privilege. I want to spread positivity and cool ideas, and whoever partakes in them, cool; whoever doesn’t, that’s fine, just have an amazing time with your life, and be a light in the world. As Dopey Sun says: “Sun is Bright, You are Bright.”
